Great memories. Went to many a game in 1982 and 83 when I was stationed at 32nd Street. Pizza Ball, Donnegal's, Kate Smith doing her God Bless America. I miss those days!

I went to pretty much every Socks indoor and outdoor game from 78 to 88. Its like a totally different time. Great memories.

just couldnt get to the Soccer Bowl. Thank goodness for indoor. I got so frustrated every year watching the Sockers just give away every chance to go to a Soccer Bowl.

A single rule change ruined the game of indoor soccer..... The moving of the "red lines" (now the "yellow lines") from 60 feet apart to 100 feet apart...... Basically eliminating of the old "three line pass"...... The rule change killed the "playmaking" and "flow" in the game...... This forced players to spread the field, the frenetic "back and forth" action was gone..... (Teams were able to swarm the opposing goal, because a long clearing pass the other way would often result in a "three line" violation. The only counter was a low ball, often thrown by the goalkeeper.) The rule change basically made teams kick "long balls" to the other end of the field, and hope the opposition makes a mistake.... The game became downright boring.... It had no semblance to the game prior to the rule change. The red/yellow lines have been 100 feet apart in professional indoor soccer leagues ever since (also called "arena soccer"), the game has never recovered.... And won't ever recover.... Unless the old 60 foot "3 line violation" rules are brought back. (But now with MLS, it will be difficult to bring back the talent that the old MISL once had.) Indoor soccer was destined to become a major sport..... But it was short-circuited by the red/yellow line rule change stated above.

i had the great pleasure to play against their reserve team in 1980/81 season, whilst living in carlsbad, during a year of travelling. played in a trial game but wasnt lucky enough to have been kept on. happy times

That damn Steve Zungul broke St Louis heart year in and year out.

Zungul was one of the best European strikers in football and then he suddenly moved to America to play this game which I don't even know what is called. Hajduk fans still miss him.

Loved the Arrows back in the day. I watched this scrambled on TV because we didn't have SportsChannel.

I remember this as a kid growing up on Long Island back then, the sport was huge and youth leagues were all over the place. I played on a traveling team for two years 1983 and ‘84.

I was hoping to find any broadcasts from the Buffalo Stallions from the early 1980s. My dad, Fred Hartrick, was the color commentator and I would love to show him old broadcasts, since nobody has any recordings.

Growing up in SD I credit you guys (and being surrounded by Mexican football of course) for giving us players real examples and models to work toward that I think most of the country wouldn't have for many years. this game was rigged. no way wichita should have lost this game. anyone watching this game could see wichita was clearly better. how would the steamers have done with their backup goalie in sudden death OT? or shootouts for that matter. and it ends on a bs penalty kick awarded against goalkeeper brad higgs.
